scary kansas!

This article is truly frightening: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/30/national/30baby.html?hp&ex=1125460800&en=1e764688ce075d1c&ei=5094&partner=homepage

What state in the union still allows 12-year olds to marry!? Kansas, apparently. It's pretty creepy.

In other news, I managed to slam my knee into a hold while climbing today, and now it hurts. My gym has gotten a whole lot better at putting up new bouldering routes pretty regularly, but I'm convinced that all the route-setters are 7-foot tall scandinavian boys named Hans and Per. I can't even start half the problems. Gar.

I also went to an indie media networking event tonight with the full intention of drinking all their wine. Instead, I remained relatively sober (just 1 glass of red) and wound up talking to Oliver Wang, a music writer for the SF Bay Guardian and a bunch of other mags, for about an hour. He's a pretty fun, interesting person and we both spent a long time dissing the following bands: Dave Matthews, Phish, Matchbox 20, Third Eye Blind, and recent Santana. Also, he enlightened me to the existence of a fellow named Bo Bice (a recent American Idol reject) who sings some heinously racist and colonial-minded song on the new Santana album. I told him I didn't have a TV and therefore didn't know who this Bo Bice jackass was, and he said that was a very indie thing to say (he was joking; I am less indie and more poor than anything else, and can't afford a TV or cable).

Oliver also recommended that I check out the Go! Team. All the kids seem to love them these days: has anyone gotten a chance to listen to them? I'm sorta intrigued.

Ah, leave it to the Swedes to invent nicknames that are LONGER than the original name. What every happened to Scandinavian efficiency?

i know, it's weird. although, i haven't figured out if pelle is just a common nick name for anyone & not for the name par in particular; maybe that's it.

I found *this* kind of gross. Why is the NYTimes writing sentences like this??

"Ms. Guyer said that she asked Crystal why she seemed to be using fewer tampons..."
